6th Annual Toys For Tots/Military Academies Women’s Soccer Classic To be Played September 6 and 8, 2002 at Robert R. Hermann Stadium on the Saint Louis University Campus

West Point, Air Force, Navy and Saint Louis University Play to Benefit Charity

St. Louis, MO August 12, 2002 - Women’s varsity soccer teams from the United States Military Academies - West Point, Air Force and Navy - and Saint Louis University, all Division I college teams, will play regular season games beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6 and beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 8 at the Saint Louis University Campus, Hermann Stadium, in mid-town St. Louis, Missouri. This is the sixth year for this event. In its 5 year history, this event has gathered over 4500 toys for the local Toys For Tots campaign. Admission is one new toy for Toys For Tots or $10.00 for all games each day. Children under age 10 are admitted for free.

In addition to the local student athletes from the SLU team, first year West Point cadet Sarah Dreyfus of Chesterfield, MO (Parkway Central and Busch Soccer Club) will be returning home to compete against some of her former team mates. West Point is celebrating its 200th Anniversary in 2002. Coach Gene Ventriglia and his program begins the 17th season only two wins away from 200 wins for his career and the West Point Program. Navy’s coach, Carin Gabarra, was a member of the 1996 Olympic Women’s Gold Metal Team in Athens, Georgia, and the Women’s World Cup Champions in 1991.

8:00 p.m. Army v Saint Louis University

Sunday, September 8

10:00 a.m. Air Force v Army

Noon Saint Louis University v Navy

The Toys For Tots/Military Academies Women’s Soccer Classic was organized by the St. Louis Military Academies Sports Foundation, Inc. to benefit Toys For Tots, the nationwide community service project of the United States Marine Corps Reserves, and promote women’s soccer in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
