SCOTT SCHNUCK NAMED NEW CHAIR
OF THE ST. LOUIS SPORTS COMMISSION
ORGANIZATION ADDS SEVEN NEW DIRECTORS TO ITS
VOLUNTEER BOARD
ST. LOUIS Dec. 6, 2004 The St. Louis Sports Commission's board of directors has selected Scott Schnuck as the organization's new chair. Schnuck is president and COO of Schnuck Markets, Inc. He succeeds Centric Group CEO Doug Albrecht , whose term expires at the end of this year. Schnuck served as vice chair of the organization since 2003.
We are extremely excited and fortunate to have Scott in the position of chair for the next two years, said Sports Commission President Frank Viverito. With the Sports Commission in the middle of the busiest and most successful period in its history, his commitment, expertise, leadership, and dedication will be a tremendous asset to the organization.
Schnuck was elected president and COO of Schnuck Markets, Inc., in 1991. He is active in several local community organizations, including the Missouri Botanical Garden (current board president), the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association (incoming chair), Junior Achievement (past chair) and St. Louis Children's Hospital. Schnuck is a graduate of Cornell University , where he was a two-year starter on the football team. He received his master's in business administration from Stanford University.
I am truly proud of what the Sports Commission has done for St. Louis and I look forward to helping the organization continue to build momentum and produce high-quality events for the region, said Schnuck. My passions for sports and helping the community to gain national recognition fit nicely with my involvement with the Commission. This is a wonderful time for the organization and I'm eager to help the Sports Commission achieve its goals and build on its success.
In addition to Schnuck's appointment, the Sports Commission's board approved the nomination of seven new directors: Joe Ambrose (First Bank Commercial Banking executive vice president) ; Butch Bishop (Western Construction Group CEO); Paul Kalsbeek (Wells Fargo Bank executive vice president & southeast regional manager); Kathleen Killion (BJC HealthCare executive director - health literacy); Chris Mileski (Sports Enhancement Group director of exercise physiology, sport science and human performance); Dr. Michael Milne (private orthopedic surgeon); and Paul Rhea (U.S. Bank Private Client Group region manager - senior vice president). St. Louis Rams Senior Vice President Bob Wallace will continue to serve as the organization's treasurer and secretary. Former chair Albrecht is stepping down from the Sports Commission's board of directors.
We really appreciate Doug's leadership and commitment to the organization, said Viverito. As we said at Doug's final board meeting, he truly was the perfect chair.' The organization rose to new heights during his tenure. His impact on the organization will be felt well into the future. Schnuck is the Sports Commission's eighth chair since its inception in 1989. Previous chairs were Tee Baur, Harry Morley, Nick Penniman, Joe Farrell, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Walter Lamkin, and Albrecht.
The St. Louis Sports Commission is the privately funded non-profit organization that benefits St. Louis through sports.
