ST. LOUIS – April 23, 2004 – Single-session tickets for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Diving Trials go on sale at 9 a.m. Monday, April 26. Fans can purchase tickets to any of the 12 sessions that are part of the competition, including the men's and women's platform finals Saturday, June 12 and Sunday, June 13. Thanks to strong advance sales for all-session tickets, less than 1,500 tickets are available for each session. Fans are encouraged to order tickets early. Tickets for the seven preliminary sessions cost $5, $10 and $15. Tickets for the five finals sessions are $20, $25 and $30. To order tickets, call MetroTix at 314-534-1111, order online at www.metrotix.com , or visit the Rec-Plex, 5200 Mexico Road, in St. Peters.

The 2004 U.S. Olympic Diving Trials take place June 7-13 at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. Approximately 100 of America's best divers will compete for 11 spots on the U.S. Olympic Team, which will represent the United States at the 2004 Summer Games in Athens, Greece. Hosted by the City of St. Peters and the St. Louis Sports Commission, the Diving Trials are part of a series of Olympic events taking place in St. Louis in 2004 to mark the centennial of St. Louis' 1904 Olympic games.

“Our local organizers had the goal of keeping ticket prices affordable. And with tickets as low as $5, area residents and families certainly have a wonderful chance to see the trials and connect with St. Louis' Olympic legacy,” said Steve McFarland, executive director of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Diving Trials. “With the Rec-Plex capacity at only 2,500 every seat is close to the action, giving fans an incredible opportunity to cheer on America's best divers and Olympic hopefuls. Unless you're headed to Athens, this will be as close to the Olympics as you'll get.”

All-session tickets for the event remain on sale and are $95, $110, and $130. All-session tickets provide admission to all 12 sessions of the competition, are a great value, and can be shared among family and friends.

IT ALL STARTED RIGHT HERE…

In 1904, St. Louis became the first American city to host the Summer games. That year, the sport of diving made its Olympic debut. U.S. Diving's gold medal tradition began when St. Louisan George Sheldon won the men's platform event at a man-made lake just west of Forest Park. Since then, U.S. Diving has compiled the highest medal-winning percentage of all American Olympic sports. One hundred years and 46 gold medals later, diving is returning to its Olympic birthplace.

The 2004 U.S. Olympic Diving Trials are one of the signature events of Celebrate 2004, the region's yearlong civic celebration highlighting revitalization accomplishments and marking the centennial of the 1904 Olympics and World's Fair, and bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark expedition. 2004 also marks the 10 th anniversary of the U.S. Olympic Festival in St. Louis and the completion of the St. Peters Rec-Plex.
