Lamkin’s notable achievements with the Sports Commission:

  • Served as the Commission’s vice chair since 1998. Also held two terms as the organization’s secretary.
  • A Sports Commission member since 1993.
  • Submitted the legal papers for the organization’s incorporation in 1993.
  • Serves on the Commission’s Executive Committee and Special Events Committee; previously was chairman of the organization’s Nominating Committee.
  • Helped set up the charter for the St. Louis Sports Foundation, the Commission’s charitable affiliate.

While Lamkin served as vice chair, the Sports Commission:

  • Successfully hosted a prestigious lineup of events, including the 1998 U.S. Open — Track & Field’s Farewell to JJK; 1998 Big 12 Conference Football Championship Game; 1999 State Games of America; 1999 SLU-Mizzou Bud Light Showdown; 2000 NCAA Wrestling Championships; and the 2000 U.S. Gymnastics Championships.
  • Produced the Firstar Century of Saint Louis Sports Celebration in November 1999
  • Finished in the financial black in 1999 and 2000; its previous year-end surplus had come in 1994.
  • Celebrated St. Louis’ selection as America’s Best Sports City by The Sporting News.
