Apply For A Sportsmanship Grant

To fulfill its mission of enriching the lives of area children, the St. Louis Sports Commission – through its affiliated Sports Foundation – is undertaking an effort to make St. Louis a model community for good sportsmanship and to create more positive environments for kids to play sports so they remain active and lead healthier, happier lives.

As part of its Sportsmanship Initiative, the Sports Commission awards grants to St. Louis area organizations that promote sportsmanship, and specifically, plan to institute programs or projects addressing sportsmanship among their constituents.  Proposed programs should reach out to parents, coaches, athletes, officials, and/or fans to improve the experiences of young athletes and to teach the ideals or respect, civility, integrity and fair play.

Interested organizations can apply for a sportsmanship grant by clicking here to download the official grant application.  Specific guidelines, requirements and criteria appear in the document.  Successful applications should include measurable goals and objectives for improving sportsmanship and raising awareness of its importance within an organization or association.

The deadline to submit the grant application is September 30, 2008.  Applications will be reviewed by the Sportsmanship Initiative’s Gifts & Grants Committee.  The Sports Commission will notify grant recipients by notified by November 1, 2008.

Grants awarded by the St. Louis Sports Commission’s Sports Foundation are funded by proceeds from the 1994 U.S. Olympic Festival held in St. Louis.  The Sports Commission established its Foundation following the Festival to share the fruits of the event and fund organizations serving youth and amateur sports in the region.
